Are you often tired and in a bad mood? Are you stressed and not enthusiastic? It is not your fault, but it could be pandemic fatigue. What is it? We will explain it here, through the words of Giuseppe Carrà, associate professor of psychiatry at Bicocca University of Milan.
“A state of powerlessness learned through the experiences of the last year”, this is how the university professor Carrà describes the pandemic fatigue. Understanding, even unconsciously, that Covid-19 has completely changed our lives, without the actual power of controlling the change; the constant and extended uncertainty of the future, even the near future.
These feelings are stronger in young university students, going through that stage of life where they must face the world and self-understanding, with the purpose of building their future. But what happens if all of this seems not to be in your control anymore? ? If every action, even the easiest one like going to the library, must be reconsidered?
Here it is, the pandemic fatigue, that brings you tiredness, apathy, demotivation, concentration difficulties, and eating and sleep habits changing.
Everyone lives and feels the pandemic differently, and for this reason there is not a unique answer on how to deal with pandemic fatigue. However, it is important that each one of us recognizes the impact covid-19 got on their mind, and that we try to react in case we recognize ourselves with this pathology.
The University professor states that “unfortunately, individual strategies are complex and disparate”, therefore there is no generic “cure.
However, communicating clearly with people around us can help: friends, family, professors, employers or others. Shutting others out is of no help, on the other hand communicating, involving, and cooperating (within the limits) with the external environment can help in fighting pandemic fatigue. Also, living in an In-Domus Campus can be very helpful.
The In-Domus family is committed in the pursuit of the wellbeing of its guest and it is at your disposal for every necessity. Together is better!
