The ATM Milan pass for under 26 allows younger people to use the public transport service provided by the Milanese Transport Company (ATM) at particularly advantageous conditions.
In this in-depth study we will try to understand what is included in the subscription, how to use it and what are the benefits that students under the age of 26 can enjoy.
The under 26 ATM subscription to move around Milan allows young students to travel as much and when they want within the chosen period of validity (for example, monthly or yearly).
Loaded on an electronic card with a duration of 4 years, the pass therefore allows you to travel without any limit in the relevant tariff zone. In fact, we recall that the new tariff system, which came into force two years ago, considers the city of Milan as the center of the mobility basin of the metropolitan area, starting from which the surrounding area has been divided into concentric areas with a width of about 5 km: each of these areas represent a tariff zone to which an identification code has been assigned.
Young people under 26 will therefore have to choose the areas of their interest and, based on those, opt for the most useful season ticket.
If the above summarized is clear, it should also be the fact that the cost of the under 26 ATM subscription in Milan depends on the cost of the “ordinary” subscription, which in turn depends on the areas that you have chosen to include in your plan.
For example, in the event that the student has opted only and exclusively for the urban area (i.e. the city of Milan in the strict sense), the cost of the ordinary pass will be equal to 39 euros, while the annual one will be equal to 330 euros. However, young people under 26 will be able to enjoy some rather important discounts, considering that the monthly pass will be only 22 euros, while the annual one will cost 200 euros.
In other cases, the discount granted to young people under 26 is equal to 25% on the ordinary price.
The card costs 10 euros and is valid for 4 years. At that point – having assessed that the card is delivered without any balance in it – it will be necessary to top up the amount necessary to cover the cost of the subscription.
As we have already mentioned, if you opt for a monthly pass for the Milan area only, the cost will be of 22 euros.
The only differences between the monthly and annual subscription are obviously related to the duration of the subscription and the cost. However, nothing changes about the opportunities that are granted to students, who can therefore use the ATM public transport service at any time they wish, if included in the reference time frame.
