Milan is the best city to start work
Milan emerged as the best in Italy for a first-time worker, with the highest number of job opportunities (1167 open positions) of which almost 8% (129) offer remote or hybrid work flexibility.
However, the capital of Lombardy is also the one with the highest cost of living, in fact a rent is around EUR 1300 per month and around EUR 207 for consumption, while an intern earns an average of EUR 669 per month.
In second place is Rome with 186 open jobs and a salary of around EUR 792 per month.
In addition, the capital offers more than 900 free attractions for young workers who want to live in a metropolis on a tight budget. Even here the rent is much higher than the average salary at around EUR 1,005.
Southern Italy also offers cities with very attractive living opportunities.
Here we find an opposite situation to the north: the south has fewer job offers but a very favorable average cost of living, which allows workers to live comfortably even during an internship.
Which is why Reggio Calabria unexpectedly emerged as the third best place to find a job.
The very low cost of living (404 euros on average for a monthly rent) and internship salaries in line with the national average (602) mean that the quality of life for an intern is much higher than in other cities in Italy.
The city in Calabria, on the other hand, only offers 19 positions for interns. Also among the front runners are: Salerno (total score 4.39), Messina (4.18) and Catania (4.11).
Considering the current cost of living and the average purchasing power of an intern, Southern Italy has clear economic advantages over the North.
Milan, Rome, Turin and Bologna have a higher offer of internships than the national average of between 70 and 17 applications per city.
Analyzing salaries specifically by location, Business Name Generator determined that Rome offers the highest salaries for interns, with an average of EUR 792 per month.
Looking nationally, however, Emilia Romagna is definitely the most remunerative region for an aspiring intern.
Bologna is in second place with an average monthly salary of 700, Ravenna in third with 696 euro, Modena in fourth with 690 and Ferrara in sixth with 673.
Milan, despite its high cost of living, ranks only seventh in terms of average monthly salary (669). This means that if you consider this city as a potential destination to start your career, you will probably have to find further solutions.
