– Know your body and find out how many hours of sleep it needs to recharge. Generally, 7-8 hours of sleep are recommended, but everyone is different, your body might need longer, or shorter times to recover.
– Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, in such a way your body will get a steady rhythm.
– You are not going to get back your night’s sleep, not even repeatedly napping during the day. No one is telling you not to nap, but is better if you take short ones, like the popular “power nap”.
– If you really cannot sleep during the night, staying in bed staring at the ceiling is pointless. Get up and do something pleasing, go back to bed only when you are actually tired.
– Practicing sport is important, but better not to practice after dinner. It seems that physical activity four hours before going to bed might disturb your sleep.
– Avoid eating stimulants food, like coffee, tea, chocolate, and spirits. Prefer easy digestible food and perhaps a cup of camomile, linden or a relaxing herbal tea.
– Read a book. Put aside the technology before going to bed, your brain will thank you. Reading a book would allow your mind to relax, helping you to sleep.
– Sleep in a refreshed and dark room. A hot room might be comforting during cold seasons, but it will not help you to sleep well. Room temperature should not be above 19°. Moreover, removing light sources in the room allow you to improve your sleep quality.
Do not underestimate a good night’s sleep, but remember, there is no perfect recipes for sleeping well, you will have to find the perfect balance for you. It might take some time, but it will not be wasted time. What are you waiting?
